Review: Saints Row The Third (PS3)

When Saints Row 2 came out in 2008 it was an unapologetically violent, raunchy, profane and outrageously silly genre parody. Some dismissed it as a Grand Theft Auto Clone, but in reality, Saints Row 2 was a unique, mayhem filled, thrill ride that gave us colorful characters, top of the line voice acting and a gritty, Guy Ritchie style storyline. Saints Row 2 had some of the best character and vehicle customization options in the genre and despite the lackluster visuals and unrefined controls; it was my favorite action game of the year.
Saints Row The Third was one of my most anticipated titles of 2011. The trailers promised everything that was great about Saints Row 2, times a hundred. On November 15, 2011 reality sunk in. The sequel was out and like a hurricane it destroyed all my hopes for the sequel and was over before I could scream for help.
The Good
- The first few hours are a blast
- If you can stomach the goofiness, there is a ton of it
- Moments of brilliance
The Bad
- Very underwhelming graphics
- Embarrassing storyline and characters
- Idiotic gimmicks replaced the charm of the series
Saints Row The Third is loud, obnoxious and tasteless. The last game managed to balance the ridiculous with the brilliant, but Volition's latest outing is a huge disappointment for fans of the series. Gamers unfamiliar with the previous title should immediately stop reading and go play Saints Row 2 in order to understand my bitterness.
Once upon a time, when pimps ruled the world
Since the last game's events, The Saints have gone from street gangsters to owning a media empire. We see a return of our favorite character Johnny Gat and Shaundi, but neither of them gets the screen time they deserve.
The first tutorial mission is a heist gone wrong. The bank tellers start fighting back with military grade weapons and it leads to a chaotic shootout between The Saints and the Stilwater P.D. The Saints end up in jail and you learn about the Syndicate, a criminal organization led by Phillipe Loren, who coincidentally owns the bank you tried to rob and has the police in his pocket. The story then takes you to Steelport, the new city that the Saints will try to take from the Syndicate.
Beyond the promising intro, the game becomes duller with each objective. The storyline hangs on a thread throughout the campaign as each mission gushes with overdone dialogue and cheap gimmicks.
In some of the earlier developer interviews, Volition claimed that they would focus on the more ridiculous nature of the franchise, but I never imagined they would take it this far. What you see in the previews is exactly, and unfortunately, all you get. The purple dildo weapon that seemed so funny the first time it was shown in trailers has more character than the rest of the Saints Crew.
The developers boasted about the amount of content they would bring into the game, but not only is it ironically smaller, lacking everything that was great about the previous title, it even reuses most of the mini missions from the predecessor. Cheap! Very Cheap!
Been there, done that, please bring back Johnny Gat
For a game that tries so hard to be unique with its vulgar attitude (which I generally don't mind if done right), Saints Row The Third comes off as extremely repetitive and boring. I am not looking for groundbreaking gameplay elements or graphics, but for charmingly abrasive characters that made the previous game so much fun. This isn't really a spoiler since it happens in the first mission, but Johnny Gat dies, the one character that would have likely made a difference in this masquerade.
The developers couldn't even keep the goofiness persistent. All exciting missions take place in the first half of the game and you're left with redundant objectives until the extremely anti climactic finale. The mission structure is dishearteningly conservative, especially when considering the length of the game, which is around 17 hrs (compared to the 30 hours in Saints Row 2).
Ugly, purple duckling
I didn't expect a graphical masterpiece, but I was hoping for a step up from Saints Row 2. There is minor polish here and there, but considering the entire engine was re built from ground up, the visuals are very underwhelming.
My biggest disappointment is the character creator. The character models look bad and the outfits, while large in selection, are goofy and lack any of the customization options from the last game. Little details, such as the ability to mix and match every single item of clothing and the super flexible weight sliders are all gone. Everything is replaced by ridiculously contrived costumes that lose their charm within the first few hours. It's funny the first time you try on a bondage outfit, but the juvenile humor wears off fast.

How to Deal With the Dreaded PlayStation 3 Red Light

Sony first introduced the PlayStation in 1994. It became such a popular video game console and today it has sold over 100 million units already. The original PlayStation was followed by the PlayStation 2 and then the PlayStation 3. Sony also has a PlayStation Portable, which was released in 2005, and the sales of the PSP have totaled 71.4 million units in 2011. The PlayStation 3 is the latest offering from Sony and is considered a seventh generation video game console currently competing with the Xbox 360 and Wii.
- PlayStation 3 Red Light Overview
Despite the popularity of the PlayStation 3, a lot of people have been voicing out their complaints regarding the PlayStation 3 red light problem. Many owners of the PS3 have noticed the red flashing light while playing. Oftentimes, they are not sure what the problem is exactly but they do know that something is wrong with their unit. This is a valid concern because people pay good money to buy their own PS3, and if the red light is blinking, it will mean spending more money for repairs.
- Causes of the PlayStation 3 Red Light
The primary causes of the red light problem are overheating and damage to the hard drive. Overheating is caused by prolonged use of the video game console. Moreover, if the console is flat on the floor or placed up in the wall, the vents could be blocked so ventilation may not be working properly. Another cause for overheating is the collection of dust in the console. If these are not the culprits, then your PS3 has hard drive issues.
- PlayStation 3 Red Light Troubleshooting Steps
You don't need to panic if you see that your PlayStation 3's red light is blinking. You can try to do the following instead:
• First is to restart your console.
• If the problem persists, turn the unit off and check for loose cables.
• You can also unplug all the cables, save for the power cord, and plug them back after a few seconds.
If these steps won't work, you have two alternatives. One is to send your console to Sony and have it repaired. You are fortunate if your unit is still under warranty because you can have it replaced. If not, you will have to wait 2 to 6 weeks and pay a minimum of $150 for the service.
Another solution will be to do the repair yourself. Repairing the PlayStation 3 red light problem is actually very simple. Most people who do the repair on their own begin with removing the hard drive and reinstalling it. Many of those who have tried doing this have had success in fixing the blinking red light. Others have resorted to replacing the unit's hard drive completely.
If you have absolutely no idea about do-it-yourself repairs, don't worry. You only have to get the PlayStation 3 Repair Guide online. This guide will give you a step-by-step instruction on

PlayStation 3 Yellow Light of Death - How to Address This Issue?

The PlayStation 3 is a remarkable machine, enabling users to get lost in action packed video game adventures for hours at a time. Usually this process goes off without a hitch, but occasionally a PlayStation owner's worst nightmare pops up: the yellow light of death.
The yellow light of death also known as YLOD, aptly named after the Xbox's red ring of death, is a major problem for owners of the PlayStation 3. When the yellow light of death pops up on the PlayStation console, the machine is no longer usable. According to Sony, the yellow light of death indicates some sort of hardware failure.
Usually the YLOD appears when the machine is about 2 years old, well past the one year warranty provided by Sony. Owners musts either pay for a refurbished machine, buy a new one, or figure out a fix to the dreaded yellow light of death. Users can have this fixed in one of two ways: they can attempt to fix it themselves, or they can pay Sony to fix it for them.
Many people try to fix the YLOD themselves, or have a friend do it for them. If the individual knows what they are doing, this can be great. No shelling out heaps of cash for a machine you've already paid for, and no dealing with annoying customer service and shipping charges. On the other hand, if the person or their buddy has no clue about any type of electronic, and they try to miraculously fix the YLOD, they can run into some big problems.
Firstly, attempting to fix the yellow light yourself completely ruins whatever warranty you might have had from Sony. They will no longer let you purchase a cheaper refurbished machine, and they won't fix yours. Instead, if your attempts at fixing it go awry, you will be forced to start all over, shelling out hundreds of dollars for a brand new machine. Secondly, you can really screw up your PlayStation. Since the YLOD doesn't specify what the problem is, you don't know what to fix. Just playing around expecting something to work may not be too successful.
Whether you choose to buy new, buy refurbished, or have your machine repaired, don't fret. Most said less than 1% of PlayStation 3 consoles ever see the YLOD, so the odds of it happening again are minimal, unlike with the Xbox 360, with 33% of consoles getting the red ring of death. Don't think it's the end of the world when you see the yellow light of death. Chances are, for a price, Sony can easily fix your console for you.

Connecting Xbox 360 To HDTV With HDMI

With the right equipment, connecting your devices is as simple as plugging in a lamp to the wall. However, you may come across some hang-ups. If you have an HDTV and an Xbox 360 with an HDMI port built in, this is ideal. All you will need is an HDMI chord that is compatible to your HDTV. Simply connect one end to the HDMI port in the Xbox 360, then the other end to the HDMI IN on your HDTV. Turn your Xbox 360 on and select the correct input on your HDTV. Everything should automatically calibrate for your optimal HDMI viewing experience.
Although you may have an HDTV, you might be in possession of an earlier model of the Xbox 360 that is not equipped with an HDMI port. You have a couple options. Option one you can find a Xbox 360 HDMI conversion kitthat will connect to the audio/video port on the back of the Xbox 360, and has an HDMI port built into the device so you can then connect the HDMI chord to the tv just as before. While this option is simple, some question the quality and prefer another option. Option two what you will need is an A/V component cable for Xbox 360 with two attached cables one for standard definition (red, yellow, and white cables) and one for high definition video (green, blue, and red cables). If this cable has a HD/SD switch, make sure it is in the "HD" position. Connect the A/V plug to the A/V port on the back of the Xbox 360. Next, connect the green, blue, and red HD video cables to the back of the TV that should be labeled as COMPONENT IN. Next you will connect only the red and white SD cables for sound (the yellow cable is for video which we dont want) labeled A/V IN. Now turn on your Xbox 360 and once again, select the correct input on your HDTV. Now because you are using the A/V cables, the devices will need to manually be set up for optimal resolution. You can select the best resolution for you HDTV by visiting the setting on your Xbox 360. While this option may seem more complex, the quality is more reliable.
If you are connecting your Xbox 360 to a standard definition tv, weather you have an Xbox 360 with built in HDMI port or not, you will need to basically follow steps similar to option two above. You can use that same A/V component cable for Xbox 360 (make sure it's switched to "SD"). Connect the A/V plug to the A/V port on the back of the Xbox 360. This time leave the HD cables alone and connect all 3 (red, white, and yellow) SD cables to the A/V IN on the TV. Just as before, turn your Xbox 360 on and select the correct input for your TV.

4 Reasons Wii U Could Be For You

1. The new Wii U Touchscreen Remote
The Wii U touchscreen controller is a very interesting new change to the way we control our games. It is the size of your average handheld game console and possesses dual joysticks, directional pad, front-facing camera, multiple buttons, and a 6.2 inch LCD touchscreen display. This new style of gaming remote could create some interesting and unique gaming experiences if developers really get create with it. The new game ZombiU makes great use of the new controller. ZombiU is a zombie first person shooter with plenty of guts and gore. Early videos of the gameplay indicate that you can manage many of the "secondary" functions in the game via the touchscreen, such as inventory management, changing weapons, etc. Some other awesome features were the in-game sniping. Once activating your scope, the TV screen maintains the typical first-person view. But the touchscreen shows a scoped view and crosshair, allowing you to see your surroundings on the TV while you zoomed in and took aim through your scope. Awesome!
2. Mass appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers
The original Wii Remote and Nunchuck changed the way we think about gaming. It was a pivotal part in Nintendo's ability to draw in thousands of non-gamers and turn them into Wii owners. This however was a turn-off to many hardcore gamers who wanted more intensity in their gaming. Nintendo has promised to give the hardcore more attention. ZombiU is a testament to this. This game looks extremely intense. There's plenty of violence and shoot-em-up action that gamers want. Plus the addition of the touchscreen remote adds to the uniqueness of the gameplay. Having options as to how you control the game gives the Wii U some great flexibility - the options casual and hardcore gamers will want.
3. More dedication to online play
Nintendo has admitted that their lack of an online gameplay strategy has hurt them. Millions of gamers flock to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network to up the ante on the competition. Shooting endless amounts of computer-AI controlled enemies gets old quickly. (unless of course you're playing Call of Duty: World at War zombies). Nintendo's lack of online support was a drawback. This time around Nintendo plans to change things. I'm hoping they come through because they have a lot of ground to make up.
4. It's Nintendo!
Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong Country, Smash Brothers, Mario Party, Mario Kart... need I say anymore? Nintendo has a LEGENDARY game library and is a pioneer in the gaming industry. They may not have always had the fanciest graphics or newest greatest

What Are the Main Uses of Modern Consoles?

The advent of consoles paved way to a new beginning in video game playing. When these devices were first designed, they were made to be used as tools of playing games. However, this aspect has today changed as they are not only used in playing games but they have other important features, which enhance the user-experience of the game players. Consoles can today be used as centerpiece of home theater systems. You can play DVD movies from your console device.
For instance, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PS2 consoles have DVD functionality features and therefore, they can be used to watch movies. Some of the consoles have Blu-ray disc drive, which is capable of playing high-definition video movies in addition to the standard DVD movies. Moreover, the developers of consoles have added music playing features in these devices.
Users can play audio CDs using these devices connected in home theaters. Furthermore some of the consoles allow you to integrate an USB equipped portable music player like an iPod meaning that you are able to play the music from that portable music player. If a user has a Media Center edition PC or Windows PC, some consoles can access music stored in those personal computers.
Another essential feature, which has been added into console devices, is internet connectivity. Users of consoles can today surf the web using these devices. The devices have specially designed web browsers, which allow users access the internet. However, not all consoles have their own web browsers programs.
The ability of the users to access the internet has numerous benefits. Today, internet has grown both in individual and business applications. People are using internet enabled console devices to stream music from sites such as YouTube. The users can download music videos, movies, TV shows and other favorite programs and store them in their consoles.
From a business perspective, consoles can be used in many ways. Business persons can communicate with their clients through emails and instant messaging right from the internet. They can also browse websites for products and services. Marketers can use these devices to market products on the internet.
From the advancement in functionality features of these devices, it is evident that these game playing portable systems are heading to the PC mainstream technology. Soon or later, console devices will have the same if not, equivalent features and functionality as the personal computers.
There are other uses of these portable devices such as helping children in their learning experience. The devices have the ability to stimulate the cognitive ability of kids offering a good environment for learning. One area that has received great interest in research is how console software games help children with neurological complications such as autism.

Can You Use Your Console Device For Business Applications?

The use of consoles is inclined to game playing and this substantiates the reason why most of the features that have been introduced in modern consoles are only aimed at increasing user-experience in entertainment from these devices. This leaves the question; are consoles really meant for business application? The answer to this question is no! And this is because consoles are specifically designed for recreational purposes and therefore most of the functionality features are meant to enhance entertainment experience gained from these devices.
Nonetheless, there are some features that have been introduced in the devices, which play a role in the business community today. One of the essential features is the internet-enabled console functional attribute. Modern consoles have WiFi connectivity, meaning that users can access the internet from these devices.
In order to enable users of console devices access the internet, the developers of these gadgets have designed browsers that are specially modeled out to suit their application. The PS3 console has a browser designed by Sony, and this allows users surf the internet right from the device. Similarly, Nintendo Wii console has a special browser known as Internet channel, which is derived from the Opera browser.
However, not all console devices have browsers to enable people access the internet and therefore, it means that some console gadgets have not been transformed to fully connect with the internet. The accessibility of internet therefore, gives an opportunity for users to make some business applications using the devices.
By accessing the internet, business people can browse website for products and services. They can send mail to customers. They can join discussion forums and help in marketing their products. However, there is limitation in which console devices can be used for advanced business applications. The browsers may not be able to support many business applications such as online banking.
With the increased internet threats, a high level of secure internet access is required. Malicious codes such as virus, worms, Trojan horses, spyware and adware as well as Rootkit pose great security vulnerability on computers. This is one aspect which may not have been fully addressed by console developers and therefore, they still remain limited to the more advanced business applications.
And with the games programs are being targeted as means of spreading viruses and other malware on the internet, it means that for the developers to integrate console devices into fully functional business application tools, they need to get back to the drawing board and establish ways in which they can accommodate such features without compromising the security aspects of the users.
However, until then, consoles users will only have to use their devices for simple business applications such as email communication, IMS and shopping online for products and services. Besides the simple business applications of these portable devices, internet has greatly promoted the way in which users access and store their games.

What You Need To Know About the Modern Generation of Consoles

As the three giants in console games namely Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo continue to battle it out in video games market, the user-demands for these devices continue to change. The developers of these game playing gadgets are repositioning themselves to offer what users want. Console devices have been previously designed for game playing. However, as people spend more time using the consoles, the developers have realized that users cannot only enjoy games.
There are times in which users will want to gain access to other contents and this is why a transformation of consoles to multimedia gadgets has been advocated by the developers. As witnessed in current generation of console devices, they are turning from game playing tools to multifaceted data streaming gadgets.
While still focusing on the main objective on these devices, which is game playing, the developers have introduced other features that offer great scalability and increased user experienced in not only playing games but also accessing other contents. The Wi-Fi connectivity is certainly one feature, which has given console devices a new shape and applicability. Accessing the internet is what many users want to get in console devices, since they can enjoy other forms of entertainment such as music, TV shows, and movies.
The next generation of consoles will have a greater processing power to enable people access and stream data from the internet with ease. The central processing unit -CPU of the new devices will have enhanced performance. With statistics showing that 190 million households in US will use the next generation video games in 2012 and that 80% of this number (148) million households, will have their consoles connected to the internet, it means that users will have access to other contents.
Memory is another issue, which has remained a major concern to console users. Most of the console devices only have a limited storage space and this means that users are not able to store more contents in their devices. Considering that users can now access and download more programs from the internet, it is certain that they would want to have enough storage space.
The current average 2GB RAM in most of the consoles is not sufficient enough to hold the big-sized high definition files such as those occupied by DVD movies. A single movie can take up to 4GB of memory storage capacity. This is again something, which would affect the processing speed. The next generation consoles are expected to have improved random access memory- RAM capacity.
Currently, users of consoles are dealing with the memory issue by integrating and installing external media storage tools such as r4 cards so that they can download and store other games, add-on packs, themes, apps and other programs that deem suitable for them to access. In essence, the present and next generation console devices will show much improvement in their design and the bottom-line is that they are advancing to become PC mainstreams.
Console devices will have much more memory capacity, processing speed and improved

Review of Nintendo Wii

Nintendo continues to be a video game favorite, even though a thorough Wii review, along with competitive game consoles, shows that Wii may not have some of the same capability as the others.
The Wii appears to be a bit unique, in that the leadership position is maintained, not by engineering modifications, such as greater energy efficiency, or component upgrades, but the emphasis appears to getting the user to move. It still remains as perhaps the most interactive video game, and with hundreds of titles, it is easy to develop a community of real players that actually move instead of being static. The Wii easily contributes to better health benefits.
One of the more popular Wii games is the Wii Sports package which has become a best seller. Perhaps the outstanding feature that makes Wii more enjoyable is that players are actually physically involved and executing motions using their arms, legs or other muscles.
When other options are included with other game controllers, the Wii may actually be in a league of its own.
Although it may not include the same audio and video capability of others games, it is not really necessary in order to enjoy the gaming experience, as the players now become a part of the experience. There are dozens of game specific options for controllers that range from boxing to fencing and bowling where movements and actions are simulated wirelessly.
Wii offers the opportunity to stay in shape, instead of being sedentary, while playing video games. The Wii Fit Balance Board is used by professional athletes for muscle conditioning of the legs, and it can be used to have fun while working out.
This Wii review demonstrates that there may still be some improvements that can be expected with future versions. The present version may not have some of the same power of competitors in the same class, but working with the remote makes the experience comfortable and exhausting.
There are additional parts that can be used to enhance the experience. They include the WiiConnect24, which is an online service that includes several unique Wii Channels, where participants can play online.
Players can be matched by skill levels, region, language or age groups. However, in an interactive group setting, the ability to communicate verbally or with visual video or chat connections may be missed.
The Wii uses 802.11 wireless protocols for interactive game play, but multimedia capability is not one of the stronger features. One of the stronger features is the remote capability that allows remote-access with the Nintendo DS console.
This Wii review also demonstrates full compatibility with other Nintendo consoles, and the DS can also be used as a controller for the Wii.

Environment Projection in Gaming

A new patent that was filed by Microsoft shows your entire living room being transformed into a virtual game environment. The new technology is very likely to be part of the Xbox 720 and will be able to project the environment of a game you are playing onto the walls of your games room. The system is being referred to as "environmental display". For Microsoft this would be taking the Xbox 360 Kinect to the next level, and something no other console has done before.
The environmental display is supposedly meant to tie in with Microsoft's 3D Kinect glasses that have the ability to track where you're looking and create a 3D image.
Other than the projection system there is a 3D depth camera that emits infrared light to find a player and place you in the environment. The environmental immersion system that Microsoft will perhaps one day be developing is a remarkable feature, the Xbox 360 console was made even more successful with the release of the motion sensor Kinect, so is motion sensing the future for gaming?
This sounds very exciting and will take gaming to the next level. The idea of virtual reality has been around for the past two decades but it has never really taken off. Console developers have embraced high definition and now motion sensor technology instead. 3D gaming has also reared its head but gaming has yet to reach the levels of virtual reality. The idea of projecting an environment definitely seems to be taking the idea of virtual reality and making it a possibility but there are some drawbacks.
The Xbox 360 bundles together a hardcore gaming experience and with Xbox Kinect you can choose to play more active and fun games. One of the major flaws of this system we can see is the need to have an empty room with white walls? How many of us have a spare room in our house that's dedicated to our Xbox 360 console and has no furniture. Projecting an environment practically rules out the vast majority of gamers. People simply don't have a spare room and this is where things get tricky. Whenever virtual reality has been depicted in television or films, it has often been created via a headset of some sort. Only time will tell what Microsoft are planning with this patent but we are in for an interesting gaming future. It surely is a very intriguing concept, and one that may be developed for the next generation of Xbox consoles.

How to Get Rid of PS3 Blinking Red Light?

Machines cannot speak like humans, and cannot tell you what is wrong with them. They do have some indicators by which you can guess, and sometime confirm that what is wrong with that device. If you own a PlayStation 3 device, you are lucky that it doesn't show as many problems as many other gaming devices do. However, being an electronic device it does suffer from some issues time to time. You can analyze these issues from the indicators that device developer develops on the device for some purpose.
You will see specific colored lights on your PS3 that function normally, and if you see any abnormality with them, of course it shows your device is having some kind of problem. One of the major problems, PS3 blinking red light issue is common.
The general cause of the PS3 blinking red light issue is the overheating. This overheating can happen for several reasons. First, it can occur if you are playing while placing it on carpet or similar surface. This surface can trap considerable amount of heat in them, and can also close the vents of the device. Both of these reasons can lead to the overheating and this overheating will cause the problem.
Another reason of overheating could be the use of device in closed or poorly ventilated room. Therefore, to avoid this condition always play in well-ventilated room. The solution of PS3 blinking red light due to overheating is very simple. Place your PS3 in a well-ventilated place for 20-30 minutes, and then play again. Another problem could be due to HDD issue, you can simply fix it by removing and then again putting back it in the PlayStation. This will help to resolve this issue.
Other than these two relatively simple causes, there could be numbers of other causes as well that can cause PS3 blinking red light problem. Most of them are due to some serious kind of hardware issues. There are two possible approaches to get rid of this issue. Either you can send your device to the Sony Company for repair, or you can do it yourself at home. The first approach is only feasible if your device is having warranty as if you try to repair that device, warranty will expire. If your device doesn't have warranty, it is not wise to send it to company for repair, as they will charge $150 for it, and they take almost 3-4 weeks to repair. It is also possible that you will get a refurbished device instead of your original.
An alternative to this, you can fix this issue yourself. Of course, you didn't know how to fix it by birth, but you can find well-written guides from the internet. These guides are available in both text with images, and video forms. You can find them easily by searching them in your favorite search engine. Why the Wii U Price Is Spot on, for Now

The price I'm taking is from the US confirmed price for the black Wii U: $350.
I am not counting the cheaper 8gb white model because Nintendo as with other companies, release a lesser SKU to try and highlight the more expensive SKU's value. For example, why buy the white Wii U for $300, when, for $50 dollars extra, you can have the better model. It's a simple marketing trick that has been used for a while now.
Lets breakdown the cost. Bear in mind these figures are not 100% accurate.
$100 dollars for the controller
$250 for the actual console
The black $350 Wii U
As of today, the 250gb Xbox 360 will set you back $250 and the 160gb Ps3, another $250.
Now considering the Wii U is slightly more powerful, you can see that the actual price isn't that dear. The console itself is would cost the same as the 360 and Ps3, if it not for their tablet. Nintendo have timed it perfectly. They can benefit from having the most powerful console for at least a year.
The problem arises when Sony and Microsoft release their new consoles. These consoles will have been announced by this time next year and will be considerably more powerful than the Wii U. Obviously, the price point for these will be higher than $250, try $400-500 for both. The Wii U will be out-dated by then, but as seen with the original Wii, the technology doesn't have to be the best, as long as it captures the users imagination, in the Wii's case, the motion controller.. Nintendo have tried to do this with the new tablet but in my opinion this is not enough.
The price point for me, is perfect. The Wii U will sell well for at least a year. It may start to struggle as the other next-gen consoles come out, but they will be positioned as the cheaper less sophisticated console. This worked for the Wii and it may just work for the Wii U. The tablet is seen as Nintendo's game changer, but I am not convinced it is as game changing as motion control was. Microsoft have already showed a similar concept with Smartglass and Sony with the Vita. However, Nintendo know from the Wii, that a gimmick like this will not create long lasting sales. That is why they will try to do one more thing.
Nintendo will try and entice back the hardcore gamer that felt ignored with the Wii U and this will be the key in justifying the price. If this occurs, Nintendo might strike a perfect balance of innovation, hardcore games and a enticing price.

DSi Vs 3DS Compared

If you are in the market to buy a Nintendo DS console, how do you choose between the various editions of this dual-screen handheld gaming system? In this three part series article we would be comparing the main editions of the console highlighting the features that stand out. Today, our focus would be what you should put into consideration when comparing DSi vs. 3DS.
Brief History
The DSi was released in 2008 as an upgrade to the now retired DS Lite hardware. The changes centered on improvement in image and audio quality and content download from the Nintendo eStore. These changes made the console more of an entertainment system than a handheld gaming device. The 3DS on the other hand (launched in February 26, 2011) is a new generation of Nintendo console built on 3D technology. The main selling point of the system is the ability to produce 3D effects without the need to wear glasses or any other accessories.
Size Comparison
There is not much difference between the sizes of both systems. The older system has a dimension of 137 x 74.9 x 18.9mm while the newer one has a measurement of 134 x 73 x 20mm. In terms of weight the latter is 12 grams heavier than the former.
Screens
Both consoles feature dual screens. The top screen of the newer console measures 3.53 inches with a resolution of 800 x 240 pixels and is 3D enabled. The former system on the other hand has a top screen display of 3.25 inches with a resolution of 256 x 192 and is 2D enabled. To help adjust the effect of 3D on the eyes, a 3D depth slider has been provided (this slider can be turned off to make the console operate in 2D mode). The bottom half of both systems is a touch sensitive screen that can be controlled using a stylus or your fingers.
Button Controls
There are not many differences between the button controls. The familiar ABXY and LR buttons are all present. One difference however is the addition of an Analog Circle pad in the newer console. This control is something similar to a joystick giving gamers more gameplay control experience.
Cameras
The newer console has a total of three cameras: an inward facing VGA camera and two external cameras (640 x 800) that can take pictures in both 3D and 2D mode. The former console has a single 640 x 800 camera that can pictures in only 2D format.
Backward Compatibility
The newer console is backward compatible, thanks to a new game card slot that can play all DS titles including GB and GBA titles downloaded from the Nintendo eStore. The older console lacks such compatibility. However both systems require a Wi-Fi connection to

Awesome Review of the Inspiration Texture Pack for Minecraft

Every reasonable texture pack features an exiting addon. You understand that a very important factor that just helps it be so good? It could be an easy wood texture or the way pickaxes look or in cases like this, the sky. The Inspiration Texture pack by TobiwanK3nobi has undoubtedly wonderful looking skies, presented by MCPatcher's latest Better Skies feature which allows texture artists more control on the skybox in Minecraft. The others of the pack is not too poor either, with good and clean blocks that produce the surface of a building look excellent, thus the pack's motto 'A texture pack for designers.' Let us have a closer look.
As always I'll start with the landscape. One of many things I prefer most about trying new texture bags is taking the first glimpse at the terrain. It shows off the feeling of any pack very properly, and it's number different with this specific one. The landscape is just a bit darker than most bags, however, not too dark that maybe it's considered a dark pack. The pack complements trees, detailed dust and stone, and pulls it down quite nicely considering it's only 32x. It's some noise in distant objects, insufficient to bother the common individual, only very fussy players. Ores are nothing special and very simple, but each one of these has it is own pattern that is always welcome.
The sky, which can be probably the most readily useful thing about the pack, is very practical and detail by detail, Clouds are on the horizon and in the sky, the Sun has lively rays and the North Star is definitely visible, day or night, for navigation. Sunsets and sunrises look fantastic, and look better than those of any pack on the market. Items get some very strange turns with some of these significantly changing the appearance, like rotten flesh becoming a cut-off zombie knee and resources being truly a bit skinnier than usual.
Like I mentioned in the launch, this texture pack serves properly to large houses, so large systems and similar creates will appear fantastic. The building blocks aren't very detailed, but are easy and really supply the exterior of any building a pleasant look. Exactly the same can't be said for the inside however. It can only be therefore realistic, since that is only a pack, and it shows in indoor areas where designs can be observed close-up and since the pack tries to take a more realistic look having less detail really stands out.
Enemies are boring and monotonous, nothing special, like in many texture packages. Don't hold this contrary to the pack though, opponents look fine, they just do not succeed like some other elements of the pack do. The Nether is really a low point for the pack with designs being bland and not nearly comprehensive enough. Soulsand specifically is awful while the remaining designs would be good with some slight modifications or additional details to make them more interesting.

What Are the Recreational Benefits of Consoles?

One of the main beneficial aspect of the console devices is recreational and entertainment. The $30 billion video games industry has dedicated itself in offering entertainment to its users and this is something, which cannot be underestimated for personal growth. The modern world has become complex and people are leading a lifestyle, which is characterized by stress. The congested city environment coupled with the perceived failure to achieve personal, business or career goals are some of the things, which induce stress.
There are different ways in which people can drain off such stressful feelings and one is through recreational activities. Console devices are designed to offer a round-the-clock entertainment at home or even in office by playing games, music and watching movies. What this means is that, users can use the devices to recreate their body and mind. There are interesting statistics, which show how adults and households in general are using console devices. For instance;
  • 65 percent of American households play video games
  • The average game players is 35 years and this group has been playing for about 13 years
  • 190 million households in America will use next generation console devices by the year 2012.
From these figures, it is evident that console devices are increasingly growing in their usage. Nonetheless, there is controversial research information, which tries to explain how consoles could affect the emotional feelings and aggression of young people. Some people believe that video games promote violent behavior among the viewers.
Although there is no sufficient data, which validates this claim, there is a generalized perception that the effects of video games on the brain of users may be more than what is initially thought. There are a number of studies, which show that video games can increase aggressive behavior and emotional outburst as well as decrease inhibitions. These effects are mainly witnessed among young people and especially children.
The research on aggressive behavior induced by video games is in its preliminary stages but the bottom-line is that there is growing concern that irresponsible use of video games could cause harm other than gain to the users. However, for the adult and responsible console game players, the benefits are certainly more visible. Console games can help in taking away the emotional feelings, which are induced by the modern lifestyles.
Considering that users of the devices can comfortably use them in their homes, it means that they do not need to go to recreational facilities in order to play the games. They can access them from the internet right from their homes. In addition, these games are a cheaper option for recreating the body and mind. It takes a few bugs to purchase your console games and therefore you do not have to spend huge sums of money in recreating your body and mind.
But these console games cannot be solely applied as recreational tools. Whereas they can offer great mental relaxation, which enhances freshness and alertness of the brain, on the other hand, they may impair the physical exercises, which are equally needed for good
